How did the partnership between Team Hrinkow and Tubolito come about?
We are constantly trying to improve in all areas. The so-called “marginal gains” make the difference at the end of the race. In 2021, we worked intensively on the weight and rolling resistance of our wheels, tires and tubes. Then we tried Tubolito for the first time and had very good experiences with it. So I asked the guys from Tubolito if they wanted to join us. We quickly agreed and since then I think both sides benefit from our partnership. We test under tough racing conditions, give feedback and on the other hand have probably the best tubes in our wheels. A win-win situation.
How do you decide what material the team Hrinkow uses?
Our riders have a few different kits to choose from. For the wheels, for example, they have three options: 30, 40 and 50 mm and on top of it the option between 25 or 28 tire width. So ultimately the rider himself decides which setup he wants to use.
What are the advantages of Tubolitos for Team Hrinkow?
For us, the weight and rolling resistance are the most important. In other words, everything that makes us faster. We have much lighter wheels thanks to Tubolito. A weight reduction on the rotating mass is a very big advantage, e.g. it also improves acceleration. In addition, the rolling resistance with Tubolitos is noticeably better than with normal butyl tubes.
Which system will be dominant in Pro-Peloton in 10 years? Clincher with TPU? Clincher with latex? Tubular? Tubeless?
At the moment, the chances are quite good for TPU tubes and tubeless-ready. I think the times of tubular tires will soon be over. The latex tubes in clincher tire setups are now already more and more replaced by TPU. 10 years is a long time. I could imagine that then either TPU tubes or tubeless-ready are the most common choices.
